A new report warns that humans are the worst ever! According to CNN, humans threaten the extinction of one million species. It’s the most comprehensive assessment of global nature loss in the history of our plane. But this isn’t anything new if you think about it. We all knew that we are the source for animals going extinct, but we just didn’t know how many species were vulnerable – now we do. But is it enough to make you want to do something?
It has ignited a fire in us, which is why we do what we do. This landmark report basically means a bleak future for Earth with some of the world’s most beautiful species completely gone. Our growing population isn’t going to slow down (despite low birth rates being reported in various countries) and that just means we’ll be even more insatiable to consume every last part of Earth and destroy the natural world in the process.
According to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, the global rate of extinction is already the highest it’s ever been over the last 10 million years! We’re threatening all these species because we’re shrinking their habitats, exploiting natural resources, creating climate change and polluting our world. The report states that because of all these factors, the human race is threatening more than 33% of coral reefs, 40% of amphibians and more than a third of all marine mammals with extinction – and that's not even including all the mammals and birds we’re practically killing off, too!
This devastating report couldn't have come at a better time! Maybe then we will realize what we’re doing to Earth and finally change our ways. Just a few months earlier, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned the world that the plant has less than 12 years to avoid some catastrophic levels of danger due to global warming.
Besides being a cautionary tale of what will happen if we don’t start to wake up and start to notice the damage we’re causing, the report is aimed to put the world’s climate crisis on the international political agenda and to thrust the devastating state we’re in due to nature loss because of human interference. Since pre-industrial times, we are the main culprits for damaging our Earth, altering 66% of marine ecosystems and 75% of the planet’s land, according to the report. Plus, the report noted that more than a third of our land and about 75% of freshwater supplies go to livestock and crop production. There’s very little in the world that hasn’t been altered by us and we need to start paying attention or else we’re doomed.
But even though the report is pretty sad and depressing, it’s still not too late to turn it all around! That ominous picture doesn’t have to become our reality if we start now! But it has to be done at both the local and global level. We need to shift our mindsets to be more sustainable in order to prevent this dire future from happening. We need to urge our governments to implement drastic changes to avoid a horrible future in only 10 to 20 years time.
That’s why we’ve made it our mission to bring these matters to the forefront and raise funds for a few organizations and charities that are focused on doing everything they can to make sure this report doesn’t come true! Join us in our mission and support our causes today. It’s really easy – just purchase one of our many products and a portion of the proceeds goes to one of our chosen organizations so that we an all make a difference.
